Arthur Cravan

Napoli → Isole Eolie

Vesuvio → Vulcano

Opening/partenza da Fondazione Morra Greco, Napoli

Venerdi 10 giugno 2022, h.16.00 to 18.00 (free entry)

10 – 13 June 2022 LANDING / ATTERRAGGIO

I will leave first for the Canary Islands, most likely for Las Palmas, and from there to America, Brazil. What am I going to do there? I can only answer that the purpose of the trip is to go and see butterflies.                             Arthur Cravan

From 10 to 13 June, the first edition of Volcanic Attitude, Festival of Contemporary Culture will be held, crossing the territories that make up the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands.

The festival is the result of an idea by the collective Cose Cosmiche (Helga Franza and Silvia Hell), the artistic directors of the project, and developed with the collaboration of Giulia Restifo and Susanna Ravelli.

Volcanic Attitude aims to connect the research of artists and scientists with volcanic territories and the primary forces of nature. In its peculiar itinerancy and spirit of connection with the host territories, the Festival encourages interdisciplinary and interpersonal encounters and exchanges, also involving local communities as well as new and regular visitors. By fostering renewed synergies between the practices of art, scientific thought and the most advanced and current research on nature, the aim is to stimulate new points of view and reflection on acting and thinking in the contemporary world, in relation to the place we are at and the tools we are using.

Designed to be staged every year and with a strong driving force to it, the Festival will be developed in two stages: the already completed Volcanic Attitude. Approach / Avvicinamento (28 September – 2 October 2021), a research and artistic residency phase, and the forthcoming Volcanic Attitude. Landing / Atterraggio, providing a moment of restitution to the public of the experiences and results that emerged during the residency.

The artists Fabrizio Perghem, with an installation on the process of distilling volcanic fumes, Fabrizio Vatieri, with a sound performance in three acts, and the Zapruder collective, which will propose mediumistic exercises – have been invited to interpret the theme, on the basis of their own research and practice. The scientific experts invited are Chiara Boschi, First Researcher, Institute of Geosciences and Geo-resources – CNR, Andrea Dini, First Researcher, Institute of Geosciences and Geo-resources – CNR, Andrea Orlando, Archaeoastronomer – IAS Sicilian Institute of Archaeoastronomy, Salvatore Passaro, Marine Geologist, Institute for Marine Sciences – CNR.

Volcanic Attitude will launch Landing / Atterraggio in Naples with an inauguration at the Fondazione Morra Greco (10 June 2022, 4 pm). It will continue on board the ship Laurana on the Tyrrhenian Sea, and on the island of Vulcano, Aeolian Islands, with a programme of workshops, conferences and performances. Events aimed at exploring and discovering the Vulcano area will include a panoramic boat trip to Gelso and a walk on the slopes of the La Fossa crater .

The festival will be presented in two meetings open to the public on 24 May, at 7 pm at Non Riservato, Via Giovanni Paisiello, 5 – Milan and on 25 May, at 6.30 pm at SuperOtium, Via Santa Teresa degli Scalzi, 8 – Naples.

For its first edition, Volcanic Attitude, Festival of Contemporary Culture has received the support of Caronte & Tourist, a private shipping company founded in 2003 covering maritime connections to and from Sicily, and Hotel Les Sables Noir & Spa, a typical Aeolian hotel in the oldest of Sicilian traditions.
