This 2018 residency period will feature I, II, III, IV, a series of shifting architectonic window screenings and mouse work that may or may not accelerate into an irrotational vortex on 22 November 2018. Please join us.

Cose Cosmiche presenta la Residenza Insensata del collettivo di artisti statunitensi the 181, “REPRISE ~ Considerations Relating to the Shape of Equilibrium”.

Because time moved then as if it had been filmed backward and was now being played in reverse

Proximity to what is perceived
Proximity to what is understood

Here we are
Again

(drop the beat)

“If one could only convince people,” Novalis wrote in his Monologue of 1798, “that it is the same with language as it is with mathematical formulae. They make up a world of their own. And for that very reason are they so expressive – for that very reason is the strange relationship of things mirrored in them.”

(nota bene:
The quiet while submerged feels nearer than above. It also holds a thickness that we find missing with the prospect of a horizon line.)

The 181 As a collective the 181 is interested in creating situations that generate experiential spaces which expand, contract, or reassemble as information sloshes about.  Imperfect approximations of the universe as a whole. Artists, a physicist/electronic engineer/musician, a mushroom forager/rockhound, and a linotype operator—any attempts to formalize their practice they view with distress. And as far as they can tell, the 181 has been working together since 2007 when they found themselves gathered by the Pacific Ocean with a golden Q, roughly 10 yards of lavender vinyl, and the sea’s reflection. Since then they have appeared and composed situations in places like the Stockholm Fringe Festival, Stockholm, Sweden; SPACE Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA; an alley in Eugene, OR; the National Centre for Contemporary Art, St Petersburg, Russia; and Vicki in Newburgh, NY. Brandon Boan received his BFA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and MFA from the University of Delaware, he lives and works in Old Fort, NC. Abby Donovan received her BA from Swarthmore College and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, she lives and works in Eugene, Oregon and Newark, Delaware. Tom Hughes received his BA from the University of Maine and his PhD from the University of Oregon, he lives and works in Eugene, Oregon and Newark, Delaware. Jason Rhodes received his BFA from Central Missouri University and his MFA from the University of Delaware, he lives and works in Bend, OR.
